Let's face it, everyone wants to feel part of a community, we are tribal creatures and gravitate to people and groups that accept us and are passionate about the things we are passionate about and this is where podcasting comes to the fore.
Once upon a time not so long ago broadcasting messages, opinions and information was limited to people in the media, radio, tv or newspapers and attaining these positions was hard, there were very few jobs and even after finding work in the media there was no guarantee you would be allowed to report on or broadcast material or ideas that was of interest to you. I started my radio career at an amazing Top 40 radio station, play the hits and keep it light tight and bright. If I had decided I wanted to wax lyrical about my thoughts on life, my hobbies or the price of yaks in Tibet I would have had an appointment with my Program Director toot sweet and would have been shown the error of my ways or shown the door.
Fast forward and the internet age has created a platform for talented interesting people to create content for the masses who share their passion, I'm talking community. While I'm at it, one of the amazing strengths Podcasting has that radio doesn't (sadly) by an large is global reach, unless you are Howard Stern. Anyone considering taking the step into Podcasting should understand it's potential to reach a global audience, an audience only limited by language barriers.
This brings me back to community and why Podcast? The world is a big place and there is an amazing chance that your interests and passions will resonate with thousands and thousands worldwide, there is a community and a fellowship waiting to hear your story and share in your passion and Podcasting is a the best way to get to know them and they know you. Austin Powers said it best "It's Freedom baby,,, Yeh" Why Podcast? Why Not!
